A gentleman's dignity
A Gentleman’s Dignity
Rating: 4/10
Nothing much to rave about in this one, honestly. While it does stand out for portraying middle-aged romance—a rare theme in K-dramas—it squanders that potential with characters that are, frankly, insufferable.
The four male leads? Man-babies trapped in adult bodies. Their bromance was celebrated, deep, and annoyingly prioritized, while female friendships were painted as shallow, toxic, and filled with backstabbing. I really don’t like when dramas glorify male friendships while reducing women to enemies or emotional messes.
The main male lead? Completely unlikable for me. Manipulative, pushy, and I couldn’t see any redeeming quality that would realistically attract the female lead. He just bulldozed his way into her life. And don’t even get me started on Im Maeri—smart, independent, and yet, reduced to a pitiful character who ends up being pitied into marriage by Choi Yoon. Reverse the gender, and the double standards hit like a truck.
Hong Se Ra? A selfish and backstabbing excuse for a friend. Park Min Sook and Lee Jung Rok were the definition of toxic—he stayed only for the money, and that’s it.
The drama had its chance to shine with mature themes, but the execution was filled with outdated gender portrayals and unlikable characters. Watch at your own risk—available on Viki.
