Squid game

Squid Game
Rating: 10/10

Perhaps I don't even have to talk about why I watched this drama. If people are dying interestingly in any drama—it is exactly my cup of tea. And Squid Game delivered on that and more. I loved this drama for its brilliant execution of the storyline, the twisted layers of the games, and the sheer psychological pressure it creates. The suspense was never forced—it was real and raw. I’m also eagerly waiting for the second season.

Now let’s talk themes because this show is rich with them:

1. Human Desperation and Morality:
This is the core of the entire series. It shows what desperation does to people, how poverty strips away morality, and how survival instinct can push even the kindest people into becoming monsters. And yet, it doesn’t just villainize them—it humanizes their choices.

2. Class Divide and Capitalism:
The drama’s critique of capitalism is loud and clear. The poor are treated like disposable entertainment for the rich. The games are a metaphor for real-life systemic inequality—where people play rigged games every day just to make ends meet.

3. The Illusion of Choice:
All the players in the game chose to come back—but did they really have a choice? This drama explores how the system creates illusions of freedom, but in reality, binds people tighter in invisible chains.

4. The Fragility of Trust:
In a life-or-death situation, whom do you trust? This theme plays out beautifully (and painfully) in the marble game episode. Every alliance, every friendship is tested to its absolute limits.

5. Emptiness of Winning:
Even when the main character wins, he doesn’t actually win. There’s no celebration. Only emptiness. It shows how money, in the absence of humanity, means nothing. And that right there—hits hard.

There is not even an ounce of happiness in this drama—which I absolutely love. It's bleak, brutal, and honest. Exactly what I crave in a dark psychological thriller. Watch it on Netflix, and brace yourself.
