WEIGHTLIFTING FAIRY KIM BOK JOO
Rating: 9/10
Themes: Strong female lead, Body positivity, Wholesome friendships, Gentle love, Pressure & expectations, Found support systems

I picked this drama because of its title — Weightlifting Fairy — and as someone who’s always drawn to stories with powerful female leads, I was immediately intrigued. What I got was a warm, cutesy rom-com that still had a lot to say.

The chemistry between Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk is absolutely adorable. Their dynamic feels organic and understanding, with the male lead offering support and empathy without ever feeling threatened by her strength — and that’s rare in this genre.

While the story is simple, it touches on heavier topics like toxic parenting and corporal punishment (which I firmly oppose). But what truly stood out to me was the portrayal of friendship. It’s that kind of honest, silly, soul-deep friendship that feels even more comforting than family — and that message was delivered beautifully.

Also, it was refreshing to see a strong female lead respected and never demeaned for her strength. That alone made it special.

Watch it for the soft romance, uplifting vibes, and some much-needed representation. Available on Viki!
