The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window
The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window – 9/10
Anime • Mystery / Supernatural / Occult
This was exactly my kind of eerie thrill ride. Ghosts, creepy atmospheres, an ever-present sense of dread—we’re talking full-on occult vibes wrapped in a supernatural mystery. The art style is moody and atmospheric, setting the tone perfectly for what feels like a ghost story layered with emotional weight and psychic intrigue.
The dynamic between Mikado and Hiyakawa is intriguing in its own right—tense, emotionally fraught, sometimes uncomfortable in how deeply Hiyakawa invades Mikado’s boundaries. Their relationship is intense, but not conventionally romantic, and that’s where the BL elements felt a little underplayed for me. There’s a strong emotional undercurrent, but it’s more psychological possession than heart-fluttering romance.
Still, the story kept me gripped. The horror themes were chef’s kiss, and the unsettling energy never really let up. I only wish the BL undertones had been explored a little more explicitly or with more nuance. As it stands, the bond between them reads more like an obsession tethered to trauma, which honestly still works—just not in a traditionally romantic BL sense.
