Happy Ending Romance (2022)
Happy Ending Romance (2022) – 8/10
This drama genuinely surprised me. The storyline was solid, offering a mature and emotionally layered narrative that I didn't anticipate. It's not your typical fluffy BL; instead, it delves deep into themes of ambition, loyalty, and complex relationships.
Cha Jung-woo (played by Kang ga ram) is a promising writer whose career is derailed after he speaks out against corruption in the literary world. His close friend, Kim Jung-hyun (played by Leo), a successful author, supports him during this challenging time. Enter Han Tae-young (played by Ha Jong-woo), a young and ambitious publisher who sees potential in Jung-woo and offers him a chance to return to the literary scene.
The dynamics between these three characters are intense and compelling. Jung-hyun's protectiveness, Tae-young's determination, and Jung-woo's internal conflicts create a gripping narrative. The chemistry isn't overtly passionate but builds gradually, reflecting the characters' emotional growth.
The pacing is deliberate, allowing the story to unfold naturally. There are no unnecessary subplots; the focus remains on the main characters and their intertwined journeys. The series explores healing, ambition, betrayal, and complicated love with depth and sensitivity.
While it might not cater to fans of high school or light-hearted BLs, for me, it definitely earned an 8/10. A well-crafted story with adult emotions, and true to its title, we do get a happy ending that feels well-deserved.
