My Stand-In
My Stand-In (2023) – 6/10
Episodes: 12
The series honestly started off so good. Great production quality, solid acting, especially from Up and Poom. The plot had such potential with the reincarnation and revenge arc. I was really hooked in the beginning—everything from the tension to the setup felt well-done.
But as it reached the final few episodes, it started falling apart.
Let’s start with Ming (Up's character)—he was literally the reason Joe (Poom’s character) died. And yet, there’s no proper apology, no true confrontation, nothing. Then Joe reincarnates as another Joe, and magically Ming just knows it's him through vague feelings, while Joe’s own mother doesn’t realize her son has died and been reborn? That logic just didn’t sit right with me.
And the most frustrating part—Pat’s complete lack of self-respect. After everything Ming did, he just forgives him and moves on like nothing happened? No closure, no healing, just “Okay, I still love you”? I couldn’t relate to that at all.
It honestly felt like the writers gave up towards the end. They set up such an emotionally intense story and just rushed through all the important bits. The buildup was completely let down by a weak and unsatisfying ending.
I’d say 6/10—because the cast really did a good job, and the first half was promising. But that ending? Totally ruined the emotional weight of the story.
