Battle of Writers
Battle of Writers – 6/10
Category: BL / Misleading Trailers / Wasted Potential
This was definitely a case of trailer gone wrong. We were so excited thinking TutorYim were coming back in a Wuxia-themed BL — at least that’s what the trailer made it look like. The vibe? Swords, fantasy, action — we were hyped! But wow… we were so wrong.
The actual story? Fully set in modern times, and not even in an interesting way. It was the same recycled, boring tropes. Gave serious Middleman flashbacks — so much potential, yet completely wasted. If they had just made the trailer a little less misleading, we wouldn’t have gone in expecting a fantasy drama and come out with… this.
There were 3 couples crammed into such a short run, and honestly? The third couple felt completely unnecessary. No time for any proper development. TutorYim were the only saving grace. Their acting was good, as always, but they seem to have the worst luck when it comes to storylines lately. They deserve so much better.
And let’s talk about the title — Battle of Writers? Where?! It was more like a peaceful collaboration of confused writers who didn’t know what they were doing. The first few episodes were so random and disjointed fans had to comment on the official channel asking if they could at least make the plot make sense. Thankfully, the later episodes did feel more coherent, but that promised Wuxia angle? Barely there.
6/10 — purely because I love TutorYim and will always root for them. Please cast them in something actually good next time.
