Jack & Joker (2024)
Rating: 9/10
Category: BL / Crime & Action Romance
This could’ve easily been a 10/10 for me — should’ve been, honestly. But the recent PROM controversy left a bitter aftertaste, and I can’t separate the work from that context entirely. That said, YinWar really pulled off something remarkable here. Independent production, a solid storyline, and a refreshing break from the usual tropes — I was genuinely impressed.
There were some bumps along the way. A few scenes tried too hard to be comedic and ended up killing the mood. I don’t understand this constant urge to force humor into emotionally charged narratives — it ruins the flow. One episode ended with Jennie’s character dying (a genuinely heavy moment), and the very next episode opened with completely misplaced slapstick. It felt jarring and insensitive.
Also, this is just a personal gripe — the NC (intimate) scene felt a bit rushed. I wish they had let the emotional buildup breathe a little more instead of jumping right in. But even with these flaws, Jack & Joker remains one of the better-crafted BLs out there. It had heart, grit, and style — and YinWar once again proved they’re more than just their fandom.
