Let me just start by saying — I watched this for Xiao Zhan, obviously, and he was so hot in it. No lies there. But surprisingly, what stayed with me most was Darren Wang. The range he has! From innocent and naive, to haunted and hateful, to viciously menacing, and then soft and in love — he did it all, and he did it so well. I wasn’t expecting to be so impressed by him, but I was.
And then there’s Ji Chong… 😮💨
That man entered a scene and I would literally pause or slow down the video just to stare at him properly. His presence, his swagger, and oh my god — the costumes?? Gorgeous. Massive shoutout to the costume team — especially for Ji Chong. Every look served.
Li Qin was also fantastic. Her emotional range was so good — and the way her character transitioned from someone fragile into someone who learned how to fight, survive, and stand her ground? LOVED that arc. It was so satisfying to watch.
The whole dynamic between the FL and both male leads was what really worked. They didn’t just love her — they supported her, taught her, and helped her grow, especially in terms of combat and survival. That kind of emotional and strategic support is rare, and it really hit me.
And yes — the storyline… so painfully, tragically beautiful. It keeps you on edge the entire time. The music, the cinematography, the acting — everything just blends together perfectly. It was one of those dramas that hurt, but in the best possible way.
Final thoughts:
9/10. One of my ultimate favourites. The ending broke me, but that’s exactly the kind of heartbreak I live for in Wuxia/Xianxia. Beautiful creation. Beautiful pain.
