Ultimate Note (2020–21)
Genre: Chinese Drama / Adventure / Mystery / Action Bromance
Rating: ★★★☆☆☆ (7/10)
Category: C-Drama / Strong Bromance / Not My Genre
To be honest, I started this solely for the chemistry between the leads — and they didn’t disappoint in that department. Their dynamic was insane in the best way. The tension, the subtle glances, the care? As a BL fan, I was reading between the lines the entire time, and yes, there was a lot to read.
But somewhere in the middle… I just got lost. The storyline started feeling convoluted and scattered. I feel like to truly understand everything going on, you probably need to have some background on The Mystic Nine or be familiar with the whole universe. And I didn’t, so it all became a bit of a task to follow.
Also — the second couple had chemistry too! I wish they explored that dynamic more. But again, this isn’t officially a BL, so most of those connections are left intentionally vague. It’s all up to viewer interpretation — and if you get it, you get it.
What frustrated me most though? The lack of screentime between the main characters. Like yes, we know there’s this amazing chemistry — but the drama keeps pulling them apart, and you're constantly just begging for more scenes of them together.
Final thoughts:
7/10. Great performances, strong bromantic tension, but definitely not my genre. Story-wise, I struggled to stay engaged. It’s a visual treat if you’re there for queer-coded intensity, but be prepared to work to keep up.
