Shine The Series

Shine  The Series – 9/10

I was honestly a bit hesitant to start Shine at first. Since it is set in the 1980s, I wasn’t sure whether it would align with my tastes or feel too distant to connect with. However, trusting MileApo and BOC turned out to be the right decision once again. Their track record of delivering well-produced series with strong budgets and thoughtful direction continues here, and Shine is no exception.

The production quality is impressive, but what truly elevates the series is the acting. The cast delivers performances that easily surpass many of their contemporaries, bringing depth, restraint, and authenticity to their characters. Despite being rooted in a specific historical period, the story feels painfully relevant even today. The themes hit close to home, reflecting realities that many countries are still grappling with in the present.

What struck me the most was how real and grounded the narrative felt — nothing was romanticized unnecessarily. And then there is the major character death, which completely shattered me. Even though I had a sense it might happen, the way it unfolded was devastating and lingered long after the episode ended. It was one of those moments that reminds you how unforgiving reality can be, regardless of the era.

Shine is powerful, relatable, and emotionally heavy in the best way. A beautifully executed series that stays with you well after it ends.
